چکیده

The unsteady and nonlinear aerodynamic characteristics of the Meridian unmanned aerial system in the presence of wind shear are investigated using the recorded test data during flights in Polar Regions. The Meridian UAS is designed to provide an aerial platform for ice-penetrating radar developed for research in Polar Regions. The Meridian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAS) is a 499 kg (1,100 pounds), long range, high endurance autonomous aircraft designed, built, and flight tested by the University of Kansas Aerospace Engineering Department for the NSF Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS). The Meridian has nine successful flights in its record, six of them autonomous, including flights in Antarctica and Greenland. Fig. 1 shows a photograph of the Meridian flight test from the NEEM snow runway in Greenland.

Fuzzy Adaptive Control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Carrying Time-Varying Cargo on Predefined Path

At present, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been increased dramatically. The reasons for this development are cheapness, smallness, simplicity, and diversity of missions. The simplicity of guidance and control of multi-rotor drones is that they are equipped with an autopilot system. This system is responsible for flying control. UAVs do not have a high weight and often have three...

Hardware Modeling and Machining for UAV- Based Wideband Radar

The Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) at the University of Kansas is currently implementing wideband radar systems and other sensors that can obtain ice profiling data from Polar Regions using airborne platforms. In particular a 180-220 MHz radar is being developed to operate on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The UAV has been given the name “Meridian.” The radar system is con...

Control System Design for Rotorcraft-based Unmanned Aerial Vehicles using Time-domain System Identification

This paper introduces the development of flight control system for rotorcraft-based unmanned aerial vehicle(RUAV). In this research, the linear time-invariant model valid for hover is sought. The system response data is acquired in carefully devised experiment procedure and then a linear time-invariant system model is obtained using time-domain analysis method. The acquired model is used to des...

Design of an Intelligent Controller for Station Keeping, Attitude Control, and Path Tracking of a Quadrotor Using Recursive Neural Networks

During recent years there has been growing interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Moreover, the necessity to control and navigate these vehicles has attracted much attention from researchers in this field. This is mostly due to the fact that the interactions between turbulent airflows apply complex aerodynamic forces to the system. Since the dynamics of a quadrotor are non-linear and the ...
